Reducing / Pollarding

When a tree is located near to houses, roads, power/telegraph cables etc, the size of its canopy does often need to be kept in check for a number of potential reasons.  Some trees can be cut back quite hard, allowed to grow for a few years and then cut back to the same size.  This method is called ‘Pollarding’, but can only be used on certain species of trees that are resilient enough to take it (e.g. Willows).

For other species of trees a more sensitive approach is needed in order to reduce their size.  We always aim to leave our clients with a tree that they will be able to enjoy the sight of for many years to come.
